How To Customize The Quick Access Menu In Windows 10 and 8

Quick Access also known as Power User Menu, is the fastest way to access the advanced system tools like Device Manager, Disk Management, and Command Prompt. This feature has been introduced since the launch of Windows 8.

To access it, you need to press Windows and X key together or make a right-click on Start menu, it will pop-up.

Customize The Menu With Win+X Menu Editor

Download and unzip the file and open either the x64 or x86 folder, depending on your system. You’ll find the Win+X Menu Editor and the hashing executable files.The Win+X Menu Editor uses hashlnk.exe to make the changes to the Win+X menu.

This software doesn’t need to be installed to make changes. To use the program, run it by right-clicking on it

Note: If you don’t know what your system type is, press Windows and X together and select

System and check for system type.

• Create A Group
• To create a group, follow the steps:
• Click on Create a group which is located at the top of the Win+X Menu Editor’s window.
• The new group folder will be created and appear at the top of the list.

Add or Change System Utilities

You can also add or change the system utilities to the Quick Access menu. What a relief, right?

Now you don’t have to remember the paths or the shortcuts, all you need to do is add the utility to Quick Access menu.

To add items from Control Panel,

Click Add a program > Add a Control Panel Item/Add an Administrative Tool-> Select the item that you want to add.

Rearrange And Add The Programs

The basic function of the editor is to rearrange the programs or group them differently.

To add the programs, click on Add a program.

Now Select Add a program INS. Browse to the application you’d like to add to the Quick Access Menu and click on it. You will get an option to rename the application if you want.

Now you can add as many applications as you want. You need to restart the Explorer to make the changes affect.

Move and Delete Programs

After you have created a group, you need to add a program to it. Either you can add the application by the following the above process or you can right-click on the group and select Add-> Select the application

However, if you want to move a program to the group, follow the steps:

• Right-click an existing Quick Menu application, and Move to group
• You need to restart the Explorer to make the changes affect.

There are many applications or programs on Quick Access menu which you don’t use. You can delete them to declutter the list. To delete a program, follow these steps:

• Right-click on the application and select Delete to delete the program.
• Click Restart the Explorer to make the changes affect.

Quick Website Access

On Quick Access menu, you can also add website links that you visit frequently. To do so, follow these steps:

• Go to the website, select the link and drag it to the desktop to create a shortcut.
• Now locate Add program on Win+X Menu Editor.
• Select Add program INS.
• Add the location of the shortcut of the website.
• It will prompt you to rename it, rename it if you want.
• Click Restart the Explorer to make the changes affect.

Return the Command Prompt

With Windows 10 Creator update, several new features were introduced. Unfortunately, all of them were not favorable. In the Quick Access menu, Command Prompt was replaced by Powershell Menu. If you want to add  Command Prompt, follow the steps to add a program from above to do so.
