7 Quick Tips to Improve MacBook’s Battery Life

When you’re watching Game of Thrones and just when it’s about to reach the climax, there’s nothing more infuriating than seeing this on your Mac’s screen “You are running out of battery, plug into power outlet now! “(Yes, we understand your pain). Just how crazy we are for our gadgets, similarly our gadgets are power hungry too! At times this make us feel that the core of our existence always seems to be in constant search for the power outlet.

MacBook is nonetheless but a miniature marvel by Apple. As long as your Mac battery isn’t on its last legs, there are a number of ways  that can improve the battery life significantly.

  1. Customize the Energy Saver Settings

Simply roll on to system Preferences > Energy Saver. Tweak the preference there to minimize the energy consumption – but in a way, that doesn’t hamper your MacBook’s performance.

  1. Find the Culprit, Kill it!

Click on the battery icon in your Status Bar and it will pop out an info panel. Wait for a few seconds and it will display a list of App(s) that are using significant energy of your MacBook. Try and minimize the use of these apps and terminate the ones which is eating maximum battery percentage of your device.

Why not drop a few levels of screen brightness and add some extra minutes to your battery time. There’s no harm in doing this, right? Avoid using Bluetooth headsets or speakers to save some extra juice for your MacBook. Use wired ones instead. Turning OFF the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can significantly boost the battery life.

  • To turn off Wi-Fi on your Mac just click on Airport in the menu bar and choose to Turn Wi-Fi off.
  • To turn off Bluetooth you click on the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar and click on Turn Bluetooth off.

Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) has been a well-known Mac troubleshooting resort for years. Here’s how to do it:

Shut down your Mac, and then power it on. As soon as you hear the boot-up chime (just before the Apple logo appears), press and hold down the Shift+Ctrl+Option+Power.

Once the logo appears, let go of the all the keys. Your Mac may restart at this moment, which is normal (don’t panic).
