Something which was mostly lacking from the widely used instant messaging app has now been improved. WhatsApp started its video calling service a few years back and made a lot of the users interested in it. Since there are multiple apps available for making group calls, WhatsApp had a backdrop for the limit of users.
WhatsApp has always maintained its group call limit to 4 people maximum. Also, this has made its users divert to other video calling apps. As people are homebound in the current times, the usage of all the messaging and calling apps increased exponentially. Everyone wants to stay connected to their family and friends all the time. The technology is helping much with this process; with the help of video calls which is the nearest to being close in the social distancing practice. Earlier, when we use WhatsApp for making calls, it only lets you add up to three people other than yourself in the call. This can be frustrating to those who are interested in making a call to a few more friends. This is what made the WhatsApp developers think about it and make the changes.
What’s the new update and who can avail it?
Now, WhatsApp will allow you to make calls with 8 participants in one call. Be it voice or video calls; this will benefit a lot of people who are interested in getting all of their group on one call together. It is also going to help out people connect better who do not use any other calling apps.
WhatsApp has rolled out this feature for the beta users and said to be coming out for everyone pretty soon. The people who are using WhatsApp beta on their phones can use this feature now. The WhatsApp version 2.20.133 is one with this feature, and if you are not able to see it, please update. This will work with all the participants using the same version. Otherwise, it will show a message that some of the participants in the call use an older version of WhatsApp.
A recent change, where making calls directly from the chatbox on a group of 4 people was possible with the icon appearing on the group.
This will now be visible for all the groups with upto eight members on WhatsApp. All you need to do is ask you, fellow friends, to get the latest beta version of WhatsApp on their phones. Soon this step is achieved, you can make the call in the group for upto eight members. It will also apply to add any of your seven contacts from WhatsApp to one group call.
Hoping that this feature gets rolled out for all users very soon and people make group calls with more participants. If you wish to make group calls for a larger group, check out these apps- Skype, FaceTime, Google Duo.
