How To Enable, Disable & Take Live Photos In FaceTime On iOS 12?

With a new update, Apple now lets you take Live Photos while FaceTiming your friends and family on macOS High Sierra and iOS 11. Isn’t it interesting that you get to capture photos of the funny or memorable things that people do while on FaceTime? And this is not it, now with iOS 12, you can also use Animoji, and Stickers as well while on a FaceTime video call.

How To Enable Others To Take Live Photos While FaceTiming On iOS 12?

If you want others to take your live photo while you are on a FaceTime video chat with them, then you need to enable a setting to let them do so.

Follow these instructions to enable the settings on iOS 12:

  • Locate Settings app from the home screen on your iOS device.

  • Navigate and tap FaceTime.

  • Under FaceTime, locate FaceTime Live Photos, toggle the switch to the right to enable the setting.

You can also enable these settings on Mac.

Follow these instructions to enable the settings on Mac:

  • Locate and open FaceTime on Mac.
  • Click FaceTime App menu located on the top left-hand side corner of the screen.
  • Click Preferences.
  • In the Preferences window, put a checkmark beside Allow Live Photos to be captured during Video calls option.

If a person on video chat has Live Photo feature enabled on iOS 12, then you will get a camera button at the right-hand side of the screen, while on video call via FaceTime. So you can tap on it to take a live photo.

If you are using Mac while making FaceTime video call, hover the cursor over the FaceTime window and you will get camera button. Click on it whenever you need to click a snap.

Photos clicked while FaceTime video call will get saved in your Photos app. You can edit or send the photos clicked to your family and friends.

Use Animoji, stickers & other filters During FaceTime on iOS 12

With iOS 12, Apple allows you to add Animoji, filters, and more to your FaceTime calls. If you want to know how then follow these steps:

  • Launch FaceTime on your iOS device.
  • Initiate a FaceTime call.
  • Tap the display.
  • Now tap on Effects (icon like a star) button, located at the left-hand side of the End call button.
  • Tap the icon of the effect that you want, for example Animoji, filter, sticker and more. Now, select the effect that you want to add to your video call. These effects will stay throughout the call until you remove it.
  • If you want to remove the effects, repeat the above steps and while selecting the effects, tap on “None” for Animoji or “Original” under filters, if selected any.

    Since I updated my iPad to iOS 12.0.1 last night, the Live Photo setting for FaceTime is no longer listed in my settings. Also, when I try to share more than three photos from my iPhoto archive, it lumps all the pictures under a single picture and requires the recipient to download them somehow. Very frustrating changes.
