What Caused Huawei To Lash Out?
On December 1st, 2018 United States, portrayed China’s Huawei Technology Co as a threat to U.S. national security and requested the Canadian government to arrest Huawei’s CFO Meng Wanzhou. After which she was taken into custody.
In regards to this on Friday, Ms. Meng registers a civilian claim for a severe break of her civil rights against Canada’s government, border agency and police.
What does the lawsuit mention?
Ms. Meng’s claim damage against the federal government, Canadian Border Services Agency, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for encroaching her civil rights under Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Her detention was “unlawful” and “arbitrary”, the suit says, and officers “intentionally failed to advise her of the true reasons for her detention, her right to counsel, and her right to silence”.
Moreover, the lawsuit further alleged that Meng was asked to surrender all electronic devices including iPad, laptop, 2 smartphones, along with the passwords. After which they were unlawfully opened and viewed by CBSA officials. This is a violation of her right to privacy.
What Meng has to say?
The CFO says, CBSA officers held, searched and questioned her at the airport under false pretenses before RCMP took her in custody.
What made Huawei take so long?
December 1- Ms. Meng the CFO was taken into custody while boarding plane at Vancouver airport.
December 7- Daughter of Huawei’s founder was presented in Vancouver in a court, where she was charged for tearing US approvals on Iran.
December 10- Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor two Canadian citizens were seized in China.
December 11- Ms. Meng freed on bail.
January 28- US officially puts allegation Ms. Meng with deceit and Huawei for burglary of technology from T Mobile and avoiding US sanctions on Iran.
March 2- Ms. Meng’s extradition might process will take time and will be lengthy.
Huawei To Face Another Ban In The USAfter being in limelight at MWC 2019 Huawei might again face a ban in the U.S. for the solar system....What is Huawei condemned for?
To conduct business with Iran, US claims Huawei deceived a global bank and the US about its connection with Huawei Device USA and Skycom Tech. Plus, Huawei is accused of pirating technology (used to test smartphone endurance) from T Mobile.
In all, 23 charges are placed by the US against Huawei.
Moreover, European nations are also reviewing their business with Huawei.
What China has to say?
The arrest stresses the relation between China, Canada, and the US.
Beijing says it is an “abuse of the bilateral extradition treaty” between Canada and the US and has expressed its “resolute opposition” and “strong dissatisfaction” with the proceedings.
China also says the accusations against Huawei, the world’s second-biggest smartphone maker by volume, are a “witch-hunt”.
