Google Bans Employees from Using Zoom

During coronavirus pandemic companies are struggling to survive. But companies like Zoom are booming for giving a lifeline in the form of video conferencing to connect with people. The company which had around 10 million participants daily in December is now being by 200 million people approx.

And, with this sudden rise of popularity, Zoom has been exposed to a series of security issues like sharing iOS user’s data with Facebook, ZoomBombing, and others.

Why Google Banned Zoom?

Since Zoom’s desktop client doesn’t meet Google’s security standard, the employees are banned from using it. However, to stay connected with friends and family, Zoom can be used via browser or mobile. Is this the only reason or there’s something more than that meets the eye?

Since Google has its own video conferencing app known as Google Meet, does this mean the company is doing so to avoid Zoom or to malign its name?

Certainly not, a tech giant like Google does not need to adopt such false means. As we all know, Zoom has been facing severe backlash due to security concerns like stealing iOS user data and ZoomBombing. It becomes essential to ban employees from using such a weak product.

Besides Google, Are There Any Companies That Banned Zoom?

Google isn’t the first company to ban its employees from using Zoom. Earlier this month, SpaceX Elon Musk’s rocket, the German health ministry, Taiwan government, etc did the same.

Due To What Security Concerns Are Companies Banning Zoom?

The most popular of all is sharing iOS user’s data with Facebook even if they do not have an account. After this came to the issue of ZoomBombing where random people could jump into Zoom calls, as if this was not all, then came the disclosure of Zoom recordings exposing LinkedIn profiles.

These are some of the reported issues, and we never know if there are some hidden too. Due to all this, companies are banning the use of Zoom desktop apps.

Has Zoom Commented On Any Of These Things?

Eric Yuan, Company’s CEO, has already apologized for the mishaps and assured people that the team is working to fix all the loopholes. Also, in a blog post he said, Zoom will not be releasing any new feature for 90 days. The company will only focus on fixing the weaknesses.
