Apple users are habitual of the effortless pairing between AirPods and iPhone. To give their users the same edge, Google has also attempted to make pairing much smoother between Android and Bluetooth devices.
The release of Pixel 2 and Pixel xl by Google, surprised the users, with the announcement of no headphone jacks in both the devices. Some even raised eyebrows as Google wasn’t much amused when last year Apple declared wired headphones an obsolete technology.
Well! it took almost a year for Google to realize that Bluetooth headphones will be the choice of music lovers in the coming future. The recent introduction of its all-new feature, Fast Pair, Google seems to have paced up with Apple!

What Is Fast Pair?
As per Google, it is one of the easiest and convenient method to pair your Bluetooth device with your Android device. This feature uses Bluetooth low energy along with phone’s location to pair the devices. Initially, it will work for only two Bluetooth devices, which are unsurprisingly, Google Pixel Buds and Libratone Q Adapt On-Ear. However, according to reports soon more devices will be added to this list. Also, if a Bluetooth accessory manufacturer wants his device to be paired with Fast Pair they can directly contact Google.
What Are The Basic Requirements For This Feature?
This feature is going to support all Android devices which run Android 6 or higher. Apart from this, users will also have to update Google Play services to 11.7+. This move has gone down well with the users that Google hasn’t limited this feature only on Android Oreo or Pixel Exclusive.

How Does It Work?
Turn on your Fast Pair enabled Bluetooth device and put it in Pairing mode. Now turn on Location and Bluetooth on your Android phone. Once the device is paired a data packet is sent to Google server. Google servers then respond back with the device’s product image, name and the supporting app, in case it is available.
The user will receive a notification on his device screen with a message “Tap to pair”. The notification contains the product name and image. Once the user taps on that notification, a connection is established between the device and Bluetooth. Also, if supporting app to that Bluetooth device is available then the user will also get the download link for the same.
