Microsoft Store, which was formerly known as Windows Store, is a place from where you can download several apps and games which run without a glitch on your Windows 10 laptop or computer. These apps and games update on their own and under normal circumstances, you won’t even have to worry about checking them for any pending updates. Though you might have to face a scenario where an important Microsoft Store update is stuck or Microsoft Store is not updating at all.
Here are a few fixes that can help you resolve the issue.
Ways To Resolve “Microsoft Store Not Updating Apps”
1. See That Automatic Update Setting Is Turned On In Microsoft Store
If your Microsoft store is not updating apps or the update is stuck, check if the automatic update setting in Microsoft Store is enabled or not. In case if it not enabled, you will not be able to update apps instantly –
- Type Microsoft Store in the search bar next to the Windows icon and Go to the Microsoft Store and click on Open from the right-hand pane
Note: I suggest that you pin apps like Microsoft Store that you often use to the taskbar so that you can access it quickly in scenarios like these when Microsoft update is stuck or Microsoft Store is not updating. Here are some of the other Windows 10 Taskbar productivity tips.
- Click on the three-dotted icon from the farthest topmost right and click on Settings
- Under App updates see that the Update apps automatically switched on and toggled to the right
2. Try Updating Microsoft Store Again
Try and update Microsoft Store again. It could be that since you have updated Microsoft or Windows Store in a while, the Windows Store is not updating apps. The steps to update Microsoft Store are mentioned below:
- Type Microsoft Store in the search bar next to the Windows icon (Start button).
- On the topmost right-hand corner, click on three horizontal dots and choose Downloads and updates
- Click on the Get updates button from the top right. In case there are any updates, they will start installing on their own
3. Update Microsoft Store Using A Software Updater
If you are unable to update Microsoft apps automatically, you can take help from a software updater. Systweak Software Updater is one such tool which helps you scan your PC or laptop for outdated apps and software and installs safe and genuine updates in one click.
- Scan your PC for updates
- You can either select all programs and click on Update All button present at the bottom or click on check individual items and then select the Update button next to it
- Before installing the update, a restore point is also created so that changes can be reverted if needed.
4. Clear Off The Microsoft Store Cache
Another thing that could be hindering Microsoft Store Apps or Microsoft Store from updating is the cache. The cache can be cleared using the command prompt.
- Type cmd in the search bar next to the Start button
- Select Run as administrator from the right-hand side
- Type WSReset.exe and press enter
Alternatively, you can even type wsreset.exe in the search bar and choose Run as administrator from the right-hand side. This will help clear anything that is preventing Microsoft Store apps from updating in Windows 10.
Not able to open Command Prompt as an administrator? Worry not! Here are the fixes
5. Changing The Region Settings In The Control Panel
One of the reasons why your Microsoft Store might not be updating is because you are in an unsupported region or original region has been changed. In that case, you can try this fix –
- Type Control Panel in the search icon next to the Start button and then click on Open from the right-hand side pane
- Once the Control Panel opens, select Region, and from the Formats dropdown, choose your region
- Again fire up Microsoft Store and try to update it again using the steps as shown above
6. Resolving The Issue Using The Microsoft Store Troubleshooter
Windows 10 has an inbuilt Microsoft Store troubleshooter that can help you get rid of Microsoft apps not updating in Windows 10 –
- Press Windows + I keys to open the Settings
- Click on Update & Security
- Click on Troubleshoot
- From the right-hand pane, under Find and fix other problems, choose Windows Store Apps and click on Run the troubleshooter
The troubleshooter will detect any issues and resolve them. After the process is complete, Restart your PC.
7. Use The Powershell And Repair Microsoft Store
A defective Microsoft Store could also be a reason why Microsoft Store Apps are not updating. You can try using the PowerShell to repair Microsoft Store.
- Type PowerShell in the search bar and choose Run as administrator
- When the Powershell opens type the following command –
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted –Command “& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + ‘AppxManifest.xml’ ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}”
and press enter
In The End
