7 Tips to Shoot iPhone Videos like a Pro

No DSLRs or camcorders required! If you’ve got an iPhone, you’re your own master. There are basically two kinds of people in the world, those who crib about not having a professional camera and second are those who never complaint, as they’re quite happy with their iPhones.

The best camera is the one that you have with you-they say! So, if you have an iPhone and wondering how to shoot pro looking HD videos then you’re at the right place.

Here’s a handful of basic tips and tricks to help you shoot better video on the iPhone or really any smartphone for that matter.

  1. Umm…Storage

Before diving any further just make sure you’ve got plenty of storage space on your device. If you require more storage space, then make room by removing a bunch of things you don’t need anymore. To check the storage space of your iPhone head on to settings>General>Storage and iCloud usage.

  1. Switch to Airplane Mode

There’s always a bunch of annoying notifications which keeps on bothering us while we shoot. So, what we recommend is put your iPhone to airplane mode. This will prevent texts, phone calls and other notifications from distracting you while you shoot.

  1. Let there be Light

Although iPhone camera has shown drastic improvement over the years, but shooting videos in low light is still one big difficulty. So just make sure that you’re shooting your videos in a well-lit area where there is ample amount of light to boost pixel density.

If you need to fine-tune your exposure, tap on the screen where you want to focus and when the yellow square appears, drag the brightness icon up or down until your subject starts looking fabulous.

Did you know our iPhone comes along with a digital stabilizer? But even with the iPhone’s built-in magic, you should keep your phone as still as possible when shooting. This can be especially handy for when you film someone talking directly to the camera, close-ups, time lapses or slow-motion shots.

The grid helps you align your video against a line in the background to ensure you’re recording straight videos. Adding a grid lets you use your background as a point of reference to ensure that your recording is always straight.

  1. Always Record in Landscape Mode

As the smartphone’s screen size is getting bigger and bigger, shooting shots in portrait mode seems quite handy and comfortable. But when you view a recorded video on a TV Screen or PC then it loses some of its glory. So even if you have to record something in a hurry, make sure you’re recording it on landscape mode.

One sure sign of an amateur video recording is a shaky grainy video. So, avoid holding you iPhone in hand and mount it on a stand instead. Working with a mounted iPhone will also prevent your shot from going out of focus.
