Windows 10 is the brightest and the most colorful edition of Windows ever. But one can’t have enough. Surely, you would want the colors to be customized according to your taste.
In this article, we will walk you through the steps to make your Windows 10 computer colorful from every aspect. Be it menu bars or borders, buttons or drop shadows.
1. Accent Colors
To add a spark to your Windows 10, you can select an accent color. Follow these steps:
- Go to Start Menu, look for Settings.
Note: You can press Windows and I together to open Settings.
- Under Settings-> Personalization->Colors.
- Check mark on the box beside Automatically pick an accent color for my background.
- Now, select the color that you want to set for Windows interface and look at the Preview before finalizing.
Note: This will change the color of menu items, window borders, and taskbar highlights. You customize them differently by clicking on the additional areas like Start, Taskbar and action center and Title bars.
2. Color Synchronizer
You might have noticed that accent color changes the colors for Universal Windows Platform applications (modern apps) but the traditional programs still use the default color. To change the color for the traditional programs, you can use Accent Color Synchronizer app. Accent Color Synchronizer is a portable program for Windows 10 that automatically updates your system’s color scheme based on your accent color.
All you need to do is download and install Accent Color Synchronizer. Switch to Advanced mode. Now you can mark which elements you want to change and click the colors to make the conventional programs colorful. Isn’t it easy?
3. Classic Color Panel
Well, Accent Color Synchronizer is not the only program that could make your Windows vibrant and vivid. You can consider using Classic Color Panel as well. This tool has a clear interface and enables you to change the colors of button text, shadows, menu bars, borders and more.
All you need to do is download it and launch it. You can see the list of options to change the color. To alter, click on the color panel, choose the desired color and click OK. To make the changes effect, you need to logout and login to your computer.
It also allows you to take a backup of the default colors set. You can rollback to the default color by clicking on Default once.

4. Colorful Encrypted or Compressed File Names
Till now, you have changed the colors of the buttons, borders, taskbars, menu bars and more. If you still need more tweaking done to your Windows 10, use this trick to turn your file name colors to green and blue to differentiate between encrypted files and compressed files respectively. Follow these steps:
- Open Windows Explorer, press Windows and E key together and locate the folder to which you want to make the changes
- Click the View tab in the ribbon and click Options.
- A small dialog box will open, click on “View” tab, scroll down the list, and check mark Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color.
- Click Apply and OK to make the changes affect.
5. Dark Mode
If you are done with the bright and light mode, then you can flick the switch and turn the Dark Mode on.
Turning Dark Mode on will turn the background from white to black which means snatching the liveliness and colorful spark from most of the modern Windows apps. It will flip the font color from black to white. To Turn on the Dark Mode, follow these steps:
- Go to Start Menu, look for Settings.
Note: You can press Windows and I together to open Settings.
- Under Settings-> Personalization->Colors.
- Choose your default app mode to select Dark.
- Changes will affect immediately.
