When we talk about email services to send and receive emails, we have a lot of options available like Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, AOL etc. But among all these email services Gmail is the most popular. This is not only because it is free and easy to use but is also highly secure. Therefore, millions and millions of emails are received and sent over Gmail every day.
Although no one faces any problem in sending or receiving the emails, but sometimes, people find themselves in trouble when they send a wrong email or an incomplete mail. Have you too found yourselves in such a trouble by sending a wrong email? Then this article is a must read as it will guide you to recall a sent email.
When Do We Need To Recall a Sent Email?
There can be various scenarios when we need to undo a sent email. One of the most common case is when you sent an email to a wrong person. The other can be when you haven’t finished with the email and accidentally click on Send button. Just take for an example how bad an impression it would be on the client if you sent him an incomplete email or an email with wrong information.
To handle all such situations, Gmail gives us an option, i.e. “Enable Undo Send” to roll back a sent mail. This means, if in any case you inadvertently send an email you can easily stop it, edit it or even delete it.
How This Feature Works?
Basically, when a user clicks on Send button, the email is instantly sent to the one for whom it is intended. But once the user enables “Enable Undo Send” option then the email is not sent directly. It gets stored on the servers of Gmail. The time it remains in the Gmail servers depend on the time that a user has set for recalling the email that ranges from minimum of 5 sec to maximum of 30 seconds.
How To Undo The Sent Email?
Steps to undo a sent email are quite easy and will not take more than 5 minutes to implement. So, without further delay let’s look at the steps.
- To get started, sign into your Gmail account and click on the gear icon located at the upper right corner. Now from the drop-down menu select Settings option.
- In the General tab, find the option,” Enable Undo Send” and check mark it. By default, the option remains unchecked.
- The next step is to set the time for the recalling of email. To set that, click on the down arrow located available in “Send cancellation period” option. You can set the time from a minimum of 5 seconds to maximum of 30 seconds.
- The final step is to click on the save button located at the bottom of the page.
Now you can test this feature by composing and sending an email.
You will notice that once you send the email, you will find an option to undo the sent mail.
Now, if you wish to make any modifications in the email just click on Undo, make the changes and again resend it.
