Google is rolling out a new update for the Gmail mobile app for all mobile operating systems, where the Google Meet icon will be added to the Gmail Inbox in a newly designed bottom toolbar. The toolbar is supposed to comprise both Mail and Meet options for Gmail account holders.
However, once the update is out, you’d be left with less space on your screen with the Meet icon somewhat cluttering the Inbox page, and it may cause a little nuisance while accessing emails on the Gmail mobile app. Similarly, the Google Meet icon on the Gmail Sidebar on the web version of the app adds to the cluttering of the Gmail sidebar.
However, Google has embedded settings to hide the Google Meet icon from both the Gmail app and the Gmail web. You can protect the Google Meet button and icon from the Gmail Toolbar on Gmail app and the Gmail Sidebar from the Gmail web version.

How to Hide Google Meet from Gmail App Toolbar
Step 1: Open the Gmail app.
Step 2: Head to the Hamburger button on the top-left corner of the app, signified by three-horizontal lines placed parallel to each other.
Step 3: Scroll down to the Gmail Settings.
Step 4: In the Settings menu, head to the concerned account on Gmail on which you wish to hide the Google Meet icon.
Step 5: Scroll down to find the General tab.
Step 6: There, you’ll find the Meet option.
Step 7: Tap on the Meet option and head to the next menu.
Step 8: There, toggle off/uncheck the box for Google Meet on that account. This will disable the Google Meet button on the Gmail app.
The feature is being rolled out gradually and may not be available for all devices as of yet.
Note: You would have to repeat the process for each account if you’re signed in to your Gmail app with more than one account. Head to Account Settings for each email address you’ve signed into Gmail and turn off Google Meet to disable it from the bottom toolbar of all the Inbox menus.
This process works for all mobile operating systems on which the Gmail app is installed and downloaded, including Android, iOS, and iPadOS. Users using mobile phones running operating systems from Android Open Source Project such as Oxygen OS shall also use the same process to hide the Google Meet icon from their Gmail app’s Inbox toolbar.
Moreover, disabling Google Meet on Gmail does not mean you can’t use Google Meet anymore. You can always download the dedicated Google Meet app from your respective app stores and use it separately from the Gmail mobile app.

How to Hide Google Meet from Gmail Web
Here’s how you can disable Google Meet from Gmail sidebar on Gmail web version:
Step 1: Sign in to Gmail on your preferred web browser. The Google Meet section is right under the main labels on the Gmail sidebar.
Step 2: Click on the Settings Cog button.
Step 3: From the drop-down menu, click on See All Settings.
Step 4: From there, head to the Chat and Meet tab
Step 5: In the Meet tab, select the toggle saying – Hide the Meet Section in the Main Menu.
Step 6: Click on Save Changes.
The Google Meet section will be disabled from the Gmail sidebar once the changes are saved. These changes can be reversed by following the same process and re-enabling the Google Meet icon section in the main menu.
You can use Google Meet on the desktop via its separate browser link, even if it’s disabled on the Gmail web version.
Google Meet, for now, can be disabled; however, Google in the future may permanently integrate Google Meet in the Gmail app and web version while removing the Google Meet’s apps forever. But until then, you can keep Google Meet off your Toolbar and Sidebar using the steps above.
