How To Change Recycle Bin Storage Settings On Windows 10?

Whenever you delete a file on Windows, it goes to Recycle Bin. Recycle Bin is the space where deleted files are stored. This is one of the great things as whenever or if you change your mind, you can restore the deleted files.

However, these files are kept temporarily in Recycle Bin. When space is filled up, Windows 10 will automatically start deleting the oldest files to make space. Hence reducing the number of files, you can restore.

How to adjust the maximum storage usage for Recycle Bin?

In order to increase/decrease the amount of Recycle Bin storage so that you can store deleted files, follow the below steps:

  • Press Windows and D key to go to the desktop.
  • Locate the Recycle Bin icon, right click on it to choose Properties.

Note: You can also get to Recycle Bin: Go to Settings. Then locate Personalization. You will get Themes and locate Related Settings and under that click the Desktop icon settings option.

  • If your PC has multiple partitions you want to configure, choose Recycle Bin location which you want to configure.
  • On the settings page, first, select the drive and then locate Custom size under Settings for a selected location.

  • Now mention the maximum hard drive space in megabyte in “maximum size” field which can be used by Recycle Bin in a partition.

In this way, you can add storage to Recycle Bin and add a few more MBs and keep some more files from a specified location.

Delete files instantly bypassing Recycle Bin

If the files deleted are not worth keeping in Recycle bin, then you have the option to remove files instantly, follow these steps to do so:

  • Press Windows + D together to get the desktop screen.
  • Locate Recycle Bin icon and right click to select the Properties option.

  • In case, you have multiple hard drives installed, select the Recycle Bin for which you want to take action.
  • Locate “Settings for selected location” and then navigate to “Don’t move files to the Recycle Bin. remove files immediately when deleted”

  • Once it is done, delete files that you don’t want to keep will be removed at the same time and will not be stored in Recycle Bin.

Display Confirmation before deleting files on Windows 10

If you accidentally deleted any of your files which didn’t intend to, you can surely get it back for you from Recycle Bin. However, wouldn’t be fine if you could get a confirmation dialog before deletion.

To get a confirmation dialog before deleting a file and move it to Recycle Bin, follow these steps:

  • Press Windows and D keys together to get to desktop.
  • Locate the Recycle Bin icon and make a right click on it j and then select the Properties option.
