Early this year, Google gave an opportunity to sneak peek into its upcoming apps- Google Allo and Duo. While the former is still awaiting its release, the later was brought up to the populace yesterday.
Google Duo, one of the best and simplest video calling app, has been released for Android and iPhone users. Google has wonderfully filled in the gap between the two OSs with this one app. Google Duo has got an intuitive interface with some brilliant features. Before we begin telling you about its highlights, we should clear it out that Duo might give a tough competition to Apple’s FaceTime. This mobile-centric app seems to be seamless and likable.
Google Duo: Best video calling app so far
So to begin with, Google Duo has got a modest interface. You can download the app for free from here and here, Android and iOS respectively. Duo, the app for video calling, thereafter requires a mobile number to start off with, which is very much similar to WhatsApp login. All your contacts registered with this free video calling app are clearly listed on the contact list. And you have an option to invite those who haven’t yet downloaded this smooth tiny video calling app.
On its interface, you are given options to hang up the call (most required), mute it and a button to switch to the primary camera. That means, you can give clear view of your surroundings to your friends with Duo. Bingo!
The plus of Google Duo
Google Duo lets you make video calls in instants. It is just a touch away. Once you’re on the call, nothing would affect it until you hang it up. Just when your connection is interrupted, it makes sure that both the parties on call are audible. For instance, when the connection switches to a degraded one, the app ensures that audio remains intact. Whereas, the video will vitiate and eventually will go blank. However, the app intelligently maintains the audio quality for a good user experience.
Next is the ‘Knock Knock!’ feature of Google Duo. When enabled, this feature allows users to see the caller’s video even before actually taking the call. However, this feature is exclusively reserved for your contact users only. And yes, need not to mention, the person making the call can’t see what the end user is doing until he has answered the call.
Last but not the least, Google Duo is a cross-platform video calling app. At present, it is available for Android and iOS. Where on one hand, it has crossed the bar of single platform usage, Google Duo can’t be used on any other OS. So, if you want to use it on your iPad or Windows phone then, unfortunately, it’s not available.
Expectations from Google Duo
Google Duo is one of the simplest and the best video calling app so far. It can give pretty good competition to FaceTime and Messenger. It, being a cross-platform app makes it even more credible. Apparently, it has all basic as well as essential features of a video caller, but something more can also be expected from Google.
At present, Duo is a one-to-one video calling. Google can upgrade the app to bring multiple callers to the facetime calling. Just as we have conference call, we can expect to have a conference video call. With multiple users on the call, all handlers can choose any of the caller to be on their main screen and the rest on the small circle icons. However, a swift move between the callers would be a must.
This was all about Google Duo! We hope Google brings up the app for iPad and many other operating systems and with even more amazing features.
