How To View And Save Your Old Instagram Stories On Your Device Forever

Today almost every social media app allows you to post a story that lasts for 24 hours, and Instagram is one of them. So if you love to post stories on Instagram, then you might be getting popular among your friends or fans. But do you know there is another use of this feature? If you have lost your device or posted photos on your story directly clicking them from the Instagram app, you can always download what you have posted as a story. You can also post the pictures on your story as an Instagram post later. So here is how you can find what you have posted as your Instagram stories and can save it forever.

How To View And Save Your Old Instagram Stories-

Learn how to view and save your old Instagram Stories in these Instagram hacks. Follow the steps given below-

1. Open the Instagram app on your smartphone.

2. Tap on your profile icon. You will be on your profile page on the bottom right and will find your posts and followers.

3. Now tap on the three bars icon on the top right. Here Tap on Archive.

4. You will be in the Archive folder and will see all the stories you have posted so far. Your latest stories will be at the bottom, and you will see old stories at the top. Tap on a Story to save it.

5. Tap on More at the bottom of the picture. You will find more options such as Delete, Save Photo, Share as Post, and Tag Business Partner. 

Tap on Save Photo, and then you will process a message Saved on camera roll appears.

The best thing about this feature is that it is turned on by default, and all your stories get saved by default, so you do not need to bother that what you have posted till now is saved or not.

If you want to save your stories directly to your camera roll from next time. Then you should tap on the settings icon given at the top left of the archive folder and then turn on Save to Camera Roll. You can also turn off the Archive feature from here so that Instagram will not save your future stories to the archive folder.

This is how you can retrieve your stories, which usually expire in 24 hours from Instagram. If you regularly post stories and want to repost some specific photographs from them, it is a good method to do so, but you should remember that if you have deleted a story before it expires, you will not find it in the Archive.

How to View Someone’s Old Stories on Instagram

Before I get to the steps on how to view old Instagram stories, let me tell you about the Instagram rule of keeping any story alive for 24 hours only. Any story created by you or someone else gets removed from the main Instagram page and moves to the Instagram story creator’s archive folder. 

But that does not mean that you cannot see old stories on Instagram. There are a few other options that can be availed to view old Instagram stories.

How to View Someone’s Old Stories on Instagram as Highlights?

As I have mentioned earlier that an Instagram story has a 24-hour life span only, but there can be an exception for those stories that have been turned into Highlights. Instagram Highlights stick forever until the creator decides to remove them. To check out someone’s Instagram Highlights, follow these steps:

Step 1. Tap on the Instagram icon to launch the application.

Step 2. Search for a specific person and navigate to his/her profile.

Step 3. Below the story section, there would be certain highlights displayed. Click on the Instagram story you wish to see, and it will open.

How to View Someone’s Old Stories on Instagram by asking the poster to share it again?

If the Instagram story was not turned into a highlight and if it has been 24 hours since the creator posted it, then there is only one way remaining to see old stories on Instagram. Once the posted Instagram story is completed its allotted 24 hours, it does not get deleted but moves to the creator’s archived folder. 

The next step would be to request the poster/creator to repost the Instagram story from the archive folder and share a link with you. Once the person accesses the archive folder, he/she can either download it or repost it. However, a reposted Instagram story cannot be turned into a highlight.

How to View Someone’s Old Stories on Instagram by saving it within 24 hours and viewing it later?

Instagram does not allow its users to save someone else’s story even if you follow that person. However, there are a few workarounds to save the stories on your mobile device and view them at a later period.

The process of saving someone else’s story is not as easy as saving your own Instagram by tapping on the download option to the camera roll. For that, you will have to use third-party tools, and one of the best tools that I have been using for months is the 4k Stogram Tool.
