Windows 10 Quick Assist: An Easy Way to Remotely Troubleshoot

Sometimes, a situation comes when your friend or family member asks you to troubleshoot their computer when you are far away from them. In that case, you try to help them over a phone call, but you know that it would be better if you were actually in front of the system. However, if you are aware, with a hidden feature of Windows 10 you can use to help them remotely as well. Quick Assist is an inbuilt app in Windows 10 allows you to troubleshoot the PC problem remotely. To help remotely, you only need an active Internet connection.

In this article, we will show you the steps on how you can help someone remotely to troubleshoot the PC problem.

How to Setup Remote Session with Quick Assist

  1. Search the Quick Assist app in the search bar (Cortana search bar) located near Start button of Windows 10.
  2. A pop-up will open, click on Quick Assist.
  3. Once you have done that, you will now see two options below.

4. If you wish to give assistance remotely to troubleshoot someone computer, you need to select Give assistance.

5. Now, you need to enter your login details of your Microsoft Account.

6. Once you logged in, you will get a six-digit security code on your email id or mobile number. You will have to share this code with a person who is receiving remote assistance.

Note: The validity of security code is for 10 minutes only. If in case, code expires you can resend it again.

If you are a user who is getting assistance

7. Search the Quick Assist app in the search bar (Cortana search bar) located near Start button of Windows 10.

8. A pop-up will open, click on Quick Assist.

9. Once you have done that, you will now see two options below:

10. Since you are getting assistance, you need to click on Get assistance.

11. Now, enter the 6-digit which you have received from the person who is giving assistance and click on Submit.

12. Now, give the permission to the person who is giving assistance, click on Allow.

Now, you can see the remote user desktop screen on your PC. And you can easily troubleshoot the issue on remote computer.

How to End the Remote Session Once Troubleshooting Completed

  1. If you are person who is getting assistance and now wish to end the remote session. You should click on X button on tiny window you are seeing on your computer screen.
  2. Once you will click on X button you will get a confirmation dialogue box. Now, click on Close to confirm.
  3. Once you will click on Close you will get a window affirming that Screen sharing has ended.

That’s all! You can now easily troubleshoot the PC problem remotely when you are far away from your friend or relative. However, always remember it give you full right to watch the other person PC’s activity. It is a convenient way to resolve the problems remotely but trust is the main necessity between both sides.
