What Is Google Assistant Routines?

Google Assistant Routines is a new feature which enables a user to trigger more than one action with a single command or phrase. Google Assistant routines offers six default routines, you can customize them according to your preferences. Moreover, you can ask Google Assistant to do things by assigning a phrase to an action

For example: Let’s say you assigned “Hey Google” phrase when you want your Google Assistant to tell you the temperature, scheduled appointments and turn on Bluetooth.

Google Assistant Routines works on Google Home Speakers, your phones, and tablets. To view and customize Google Assistant Routines, launch Assistant by tapping on the blue icon located at the top right corner. Go to Settings and then navigate to “Routines” option.

You will get the list of six routines. You can edit them by adding a new phrase to launch, you can change the order of action, add new actions, disabling actions that you don’t want.

Here is the list of six default routines:

  1. Good morning routine
  2. Bedtime routine
  3. Leaving home routine
  4. I’m home routine
  5. Commuting To work routine
  6. Commuting back from work routine

1. Good Morning Routine:

You can start your day with “Good Morning,” or “I am awake”. Your assistant can do following things:

When you are leaving your home, you can simply say, “I am going home” or “I am leaving.” Your Assistant will Adjust lights, or change settings of the smart devices linked.

Whenever you are home, just say “I’m home,” or “I’m back.” Your Google Assistant will tell you:

If you activate your Assistant by saying, “Off To Work,”  it can tell you things such as, how’s the weather? information about traffic during commute, schedule and appointments of the day. It will also adjust lights, plugs and more if you have your smart devices connected.

6. Commuting Back Home Routine

If you activate your assistant by saying, “Let’s head home.”. Your assistant can perform following tasks:

Customize Google Assistant Routines:

If you don’t like these default routines, then you edit them and use different ones. In other words, you can delete or add the actions performed when you say a certain phrase.

So, that’s how you do it! As soon as you wake your assistant with the set phrase, it will perform certain actions associated with it in the sequential order. You can customize each and every routine according to your choice and preferences, provided you know which actions can be triggered using Google Assistant.
