In this technological era, everyone is connected to each other through virtual media. Every single day, we get to know about another update or a new app which the provider company claims, is going to make our life easier, or more entertaining, or will keep us more engaged. Well, I do hope they serve that purpose.
While we are talking about getting entertained by virtual media, I’m sure y’all have heard about a term called, “meme” which is quite popular in today’s trends and storming the market like anything.
Normally, few of us are damn creative and never misses to create wittiest yet funniest memes as soon as we have an idea. Whereas, a lot of us get to see those memes via social media and share it among our circle. So, here we are going to talk about a new app which will help you create meme on your own.
What is Whale App?
The social networking giant, Facebook Inc. is all set to roll out its own meme-making app, tilted Whale. The company’s NPE team (New Product Experimentation) had quietly been working on the app for a while and it came out as a surprise for everyone. Facebook, the image and video sharing platform has mostly been into publishing posts. From the last two big acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp, it captured the market of the easiest way of communication as well.
Now, the company is trying to find it’s luck in meme-making business as well, which apparently is a big deal among millennials these days. Any breaking news you see or read, before you are finished with the article, I bet there are thousands of different memes already circulated in the market, and that too are funny ones. So yeah, the potential is huge on condition that the company has what it takes to reach the top of the hill, and be still.
The app is free to use and allows users to create memes with pictures from the app photo library or their very own images. You select an image, you have an ample amount of options to make it look interesting, entertaining, and likable. Once you’re done with editing, you have the option of saving this freshly created memes to the album from where you can share them to social media or create message chains directly from the app.
The advantages that I see is that the company already covers more than 2 billion users all over the world for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The second one is that this application is free for use as there is no hidden fee or subscription fee to download and use it.
The limitation with the app is that for now, Facebook has decided to roll out this app for the Canadian market only and that too only for iOS users. In July’19, when the market got to know a little bit about this initiative from Facebook, the company stated that the application could change very rapidly. They might shut down this initiative on conditional that it isn’t useful.
Facebook also said that the wider availability of the apps created by the NPE team will “depend on the app.” I think they will read the patterns and reactions from the market for the app and will then decide if this needs to be launched globally.
Previously, the New Product Experimentation team has built two other teen-centred apps, called Bump and Aux. Whereas, AUX is a party DJ app, Bump lets you initiate anonymous chats with people in your community.
Note: Bump is no longer available.
What do you think about this new app from Facebook? Will this become as popular as Facebook was once as memes are quite famous among millennials or the current situation of the company (security breaches and scandals) will stop users from downloading this app? Did the company find perfect marketplace to launch the app i.e. Canada? Will this app launch globally?
