Nowadays, most of the smartphones come with OLED displays and there has been a significant increase in smartphone usage. Therefore, you need dark mode on your phone to reduce the stress on your eyes. With dark mode enabled, it will not only be easy for your eyes but also will reduce the battery consumption on displays.
With the increasing demand of Dark mode, Google has finally introduced the dark mode in many of native apps such as Phone app.
Note: Phone app is not available for all users as it is not on Play Store. Only the smartphones with the preinstalled app can use it and get it updated. However, others can sideload the app.
Therefore, in this post, we have listed two methods, one is for the devices which have preinstalled Google phone app and another one is for the ones which don’t have it.
1. For Devices With Preinstalled Google Phone App
Way 1: Enable Night Mode using Google Phone app:
Before starting check whether Google Phone app is updated to the newest version. Now, follow these steps to enable dark mode
Step 1: Locate and launch the Google Phone app.
Step 2: Tap on three dots located at the upper right-hand side of the screen.
Step 3: Select Settings and then Display options.
Step 4: Now click on the toggle switch beside “Dark theme” to turn on the Dark Mode feature.
Way 2: Use Contacts App To Enable Dark Mode
Alternatively, you can use the Contacts app (native app) to enable Dark Mode. This can also enable dark mode. All you need an updated version of Contacts app by Google. To turn it on, follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to the Contacts app by Google.
Step 2: Navigate to the hamburger menu in the upper left-hand side of the screen.
Step 3: Click “Turn dark theme on.
Way 3: Use Battery Saver App To Enable Night Mode
You can turn on Dark Mode and soothe your eyes using Battery Saver mode. As Dark Mode turns off pixels which helps you to save battery on OLED screens. Therefore, Google introduced the mode in Battery Saver option as well. To enable it, follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to Settings
Step 2: Now navigate Battery
Step 3: Tap “Battery Saver.”
Step 4: Now tap on Turn on Now
Step 5: This will enable Battery Saver mode.
You need to ensure that the Google Phone app is updated. After that, you need to close and open the Phone app for the feature to work. In case, the feature doesn’t kick in, restart your smartphone or switch to multitasking screen and exit the Phone app.
Way 4: Use Developer Options To Enable Dark Mode
You can use developer options to turn on Dark mode. All you need is Android 9 or above and need to turn on Developer Options. Follow these steps to get Night mode:
Step 1: Go to Settings
Step 2: Locate Developer Options.
Step 3: Then go to System and choose Night Mode.
Step 4: Once you enabled Night Mode, Select Always On from the Pop-up.
For the feature to work, you need to close and reopen Phone app.
Without Google Phone App
Get Patched Google Phone App
Some of the smartphones don’t come with the Phone app and don’t even allow you to download Phone app from Google Play Store. Even if you try to use any links to get the app, you will receive a message that your device will not support the app.
But there is a method to overcome this issue, you can get a patched version of the Phone app which has Dark mode. The patched version of the app that we have found reliable is given below. You can try it and enable Dark Mode.

Note: Get the latest stable version of the app as it will keep you safe from vulnerabilities. As this app is not available on the Play Store, you need to sideload the app. For that, you need to turn on Unknown Sources if you are using Nougat or older version and if you are using 8+ version, turn on “Install Unknown Apps” for the web browser, you are using to get the app.
Step 1: Once you get Phone app, go to the Settings of your phone.
Step 2: Locate Default apps.
Step 3: Select Phone app, the one with the blue colored icon.
Once done, you can enable dark mode, using any of the above ways, battery saver, or contacts app.
