Two Simple Ways to Surf Through Netflix’s Secret Genre Category

From action to romance to thrill, Netflix allows us to choose from a bunch of categories. But what if on four lazy consecutive weekends you probably watched all of it, what next? Don’t be disheartened as Netflix offers us a secret genre category as well. The secret genre categories provide a code number for each of the genre and you can search them by the code number.

The thing is, Netflix keeps these subgenres sort of hidden for most viewers. Netflix displays around two dozen categories when you mouse over the “Browse” menu option at the top of main page, however there are heaps of subgenre classifications which you can either scroll manually or by means of a Chrome extension to limit your search effort. Both the methods are listed below in detail.

Here’s how you can surf through Netflix’s Secret Genre Category.

  1. Scan codes Manually

With “What’s On Netflix”, you can look at these subgenres and their corresponding codes.

To browse by one of these secret genre categories, use this URL:

http://www.netflix.com/peruse/sort/INSERTNUMBER

Furthermore, replace INSERTNUMBER with the code of the genre category you need to browse.

These codes are helpful in the event that you have a special liking for Slasher and Serial Killer Movies (8646) or Screwball Comedies (9702) or something in the middle. These codes can prove our great fun to use especially if you’re foreign film enthusiast or if you want to browse by country.

  1. Search by Chrome Extension

With the Netflix Categories expansion for Chrome, you can browse through many however not all of Netflix’s shrouded categories. The extension adds an option to one side of Chrome’s URL bar. Tap on the button to get to menu of available hidden categories which Netflix offers. You can mark classes as favorites, which places them in advance, over an All Categories button, behind which alternate classifications are recorded.

Netflix’s developers have assured that more classifications will be included soon. So now forget hunting down the codes physically using the “What’s On Netflix” option. Now you have a much better option to kill your time!
