Twitter is working to make the Reporting feature more effective, the feature can share personal information of users. With the new change, a user can now specify what information is being shared that infringes their privacy.
What Does The Update Include?
The update was released on Thursday in a Twitter Safety channel tweet along with a GIF exhibiting the step-by-step method. With the update, now the users can specify whether a tweet exposes their home or physical address, contact information, a government-issued ID, financial information, and more.
Twitter mentioned on the tweet that the new feature will help it “move faster in reviewing reported Tweets that share personal information.”
Why Now?
Twitter has been surrounded by scandals and trolled for not fighting strongly against harassment on the platform. So, looks like Twitter has decided to combat against it.
The new personal information feature intensifies as a set of tools, which were introduced in 2014 to prevent abusive messages its members send to each other.
The update was released following Facebook’s framework, which will be used by social media giant wants to use to develop more “privacy-focused platform.” This includes encryption of messages sent by people to each other, storing posts and messages for a specific time and enabling people to chat over all the Facebook apps.
This indicates that there has been always pressure on social media platforms to perform better, and ensure the data security of its users. However, all of this has been amplified since Cambridge Analytica scandal involving Facebook.
