Unlike iPhone, Android gives you an opportunity to keep your privacy intact with user profiles. If you share your Android device with other people and don’t want them to mess up your apps and settings, then you must create user profiles. Android allows you to create multiple user profiles.
In this post, we will talk about User profiles on Android and how we can manage them. Let’s get started!
Please Note: The following steps to add user profiles on Android might not be for every device. If you do not see the explained options on your Phone, then it probably doesn’t support this feature.
User Profiles on Android
It is similar to creating user accounts on Windows and Mac computer. Under this, every profile has its own apps, wallpaper and settings. Whenever you create a new profile, you need to go through the same process, which you went through when you set up your brand-new phone.
Different Types Of User Profiles:
User
It is a profile type which should be created for a user who uses a phone a lot, for example, a family member.
So, all the user profiles on the device could personalization, customize accounts, settings home screen, apps, and more.
Guest
Another profile option is Guest, which can be created for people who want to access your Android Phone for a short time.
The guest profile enables a user to use its own space your device, also, it is easy to remove an account once the deed is done.
Account
An account is a profile which enables a user to use services such as Gmail with a single username and password.
Restricted profile (Tablets)
A restricted profile is only available on Android tablet, this allows you to control what features apps and content a user can see or use. This profile is only available on Android tablets with version 4.3 and later.
How To Add/Edit A User Profile?
If you often share your device with your friends and family, then you should consider creating user profiles. This will keep your Privacy intact and will also create space for another user. The other user can customize home screen, settings, apps and other features.
Add User
Step 1: Locate the Settings app from the home screen.
Step 2: Go to System, then Advanced.
Step 3: Tap Multiple users.
Note: if you are not able to find out these settings, then type in Users in the search bar on the Settings menu.
Step 4: Tap On Add user and then tap OK.
Note: In case you don’t get Add user, then locate add user or profile, then user and tap OK. In case you don’t get any of the options, then your device doesn’t support the feature.
Setup A New User:
If you are with the person for whom you are creating an account, then you can set it up.
Tap on Set up now. Unlock your screen to set up Google account and other information. In case, the new user is not available, Tap Not now.
Whenever you switch to this user, the user can setup Google Account and other information.
How To Update Your Own Profile?
To update your own profile, follow these steps:
Step 1: Locate Settings from the home screen.
Step 2: Now Navigate to System, then Advanced.
Step 3: Under Advanced, look for Multiple Users.
Note: If you are not able to find users settings, then type Users in the search bar on the Settings window.
Step 4: Locate and Tap on your name. You can modify profile name, once done, tap OK. Also, you can change the profile picture by tapping the current profile pic.
You can also select which profiles could send messages or make calls.
To choose which profiles can make calls and send text messages, follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to the Settings app.
Step 2: Now Navigate to System, then Advanced.
Step 3: Under Advanced, look for Multiple Users.
Note: If you are not able to find users setting, then type Users in the search bar on the Settings window.
Step 4: Locate Settings located next to user’s name.
Step 5: Navigate to Turn on phone calls & SMS. Note: This setting might vary from device to device.
How To Switch Users?
To switch from one user profile to another, you need to follow these steps:
Step 1: Swipe down on the home screen to get Quick settings.
Step 2: Tap Switch User.
Step 3: Tap a different user. Then the user can sign in.
How To Delete user?
You can delete a user, only if you are the device owner. Follow these steps to delete a user:
- Locate Settings app on Home screen.
- Navigate to System, then go to Advanced.
- Under Advanced, look for Multiple Users.
Note: If you are not able to find users setting, then type Users in the search bar on the Settings window.
- In Multiple Users list, tap Settings beside the user which you want to delete.
- Tap Remove user to delete a user profile.
If you are not the device owner and want to delete a profile, follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to Settings app of your device.
Step 2: Now tap System, then Advanced.
Step 3: Now locate and tap Multiple users.
Note: If you are not able to find user setting, then type Users in the search bar on the Settings window.
Step 4: Tap on More button.
Step 5: Tap the Delete option from the device.
Note: The process can’t be reversed.
Once the profile is deleted, the phone will now operate on Owner’s profile.
So, in this way you can set up multiple user profiles on Android and allow others to use your phone and protect your privacy as well.
