Needles! No more, Future version of Apple watches are rumored to have Glucose sensors

Hectic lifestyle, lack of sleep and irregularity in food are the things that are common among our generation. Diabetes is one of the common medical conditions due to irregular eating habits and increased stress level, however genetics plays an important role in it too.

Apple has taken a responsibility to provide us with the Apple Watch which will help us to monitor our glucose levels and keep the sugar levels in check.

According to the speculations, Apple has hired a team of biomedical engineers who are engaged in developing noninvasive glucose sensors for integration in Apple Watch, and if they got successful, it would definitely be a breakthrough.

It is not the first time, a company has tried to achieve the impossible, tracking the blood sugar levels without taking a single drop of blood, but to our dismay, all have failed up till now. If Apple achieves the unthinkable, it would definitely make the Apple watch, a tough competitor in wearable gadgets market and it will also allure the attention of health-conscious people.

Rumor has it, the team hired will soon be ready to conduct the feasibility trials in clinics near Cupertino, might begin the testing at clinical sites in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. Apple has been reportedly working on the technology for five years now.

We still didn’t have the detailed information on the topic, but according to the latest rumor, Apple’s technology will involve optical sensors which could sense the blood sugar levels through our skin. Apple has been increasing the members of the team to get the best people to work on it.

For instance, last June, Apple hired Dr. Rajiv Kumar, a pediatrician who prior worked for Stanford Children’s Health. Kumar was one of the first health professionals to get the hands-on Apple HealthKit platform, facilitate a ResearchKit study on Type 1 diabetes monitoring. Though it is still not clear, if Kumar is working on Apple’s glucose monitoring technology team.

The hiring spree in 2013 is the foundation of this report, wherein Apple hired a lot of employees from C8 MediSensors, a biotech company which was then developing the invasive sensors which could track substances in our body per se glucose.

Late Steve Jobs envisioned about the wearable that could check the blood sugar level, oxygen level, Heart rate, BP and more. Looks like Apple is trying to make this dream come true.

Since the launch of HealthKit in 2014, Apple has been more inclined towards the fitness products. This idea was born, when Jobs shared the vision of minimizing the data gap between patients and health care system.

Apple better watch its back as the advancement of technology is not only its prerogative, Google’s Life Sciences team is working on a technology of creating a “Smart” Contact lens to measure blood sugar levels through eyes.
