How To Transfer Facebook Photos And Videos To Google Photos?

Google Photos has been gaining popularity recently with many new features, including the ability to chat with your friends. And at the same time, everyone active on social media has a Facebook account filled with tons of memories in the form of Facebook Photos and Videos. And, if you want to know the steps on How to transfer Facebook Photos and Videos to Google Photos, then read on to know three different methods to accomplish this.

The Facebook’s new Photo transfer tool will not only allow you to transfer all the Facebook Photos and Videos to Google Photos but also will help you to take a backup of all your memories on your computer. This tool was developed in 2018 by a combined project known as Data Transfer Project which was a joint venture by the software conglomerates like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Apple and Twitter to help users transfer data from one app to another.

How To Transfer Facebook Photos And Videos To Google Photos?

There are three ways to transfer your Facebook photos to your Google Photos. Let’s discuss each method in detail:

Method 1: Facebook’s All-New Photo Transfer Tool

Facebook has its tool to facilitate this movement, and it is quite simple and fast. To initiate the transfer, follow these steps:

Step 1. Open Facebook on any browser in your computer and click on the small downward-facing triangle on the taskbar to reveal dropdown options.

Step 2. Click on Settings and Privacy and further choose Settings.

Step 3. From the menu list on the left, click on “Your Facebook Information.” Now locate and click on “Transfer a copy of your photos or videos” on the right side.

Step 4. A prompt will appear asking you for your password.

Step 5. On the new page, locate Choose Destination and from the dropdown list select Google Photos.

Step 6. Next, choose if you want to transfer all of your Photos or Videos and click on next.

Step 7. You will be redirected to Google Account login page where you will have to enter the credentials. The process will take time to complete, and you will be notified on Facebook and by Gmail.

The above steps can also be performed on your Facebook app on iOS and Android to transfer Facebook Photos and Videos to Google Photos. There is no difference as the interface designed is precisely the same for the web version and app version.

Note: Facebook’s data transfer tool has been rolled out to many countries, but still there are many regions where you might not find this option updated yet. For those who don’t have this app, however, you can follow the next method.

Method 2: Download Facebook Photos and Videos

The second method is a bit time and effort consuming and can be described more of a manual method as you will have to download all the Facebook photos and videos on your computer and then upload them to Google Photos. All can carry this method as this does not require the new updated tool to execute:

Step 1. Click on the Facebook Settings located on the top right corner of the taskbar.

Step 2. Click on Settings and Privacy and further choose Settings.

Step 3. From the menu list on the left, click on “Your Facebook Information” and locate and click on “Download your information” on the right side.

Step 4. A new page will open with a lot of options including selecting a date range, Format, and Media quality. Click on Deselect All below the Create File button on the right corner.

Step 5. Once you click Deselect All and then click on Photos and Videos which should be the second option and now make sure this is the only option selected.

Step 6. Now click on Create File button and wait until you receive a notification from Facebook that the task is complete.

Step 7. Click on the notification or come back to the same page where you clicked on the Create File button.

Step 8. Notice on the top left corner, and you will see that you had been working under Request a Copy tab till now. Now switch to the second tab labeled as Available Copies and click on the download button to initiate the downloading process.

Note: You can create a copy from any device and even from the Facebook App on your iOS or Android smartphone. And at the same time, this copy can be downloaded on any device you want

Method 3: Save To Computer

The final option is a difficult, time consuming, and something that could probably take a lifetime to complete. However, it is suitable if you have a few images only. This method will not work on Facebook videos and must be used for Facebook Photos only. The method is quite simple:

Step 1. Tap on any image on Facebook and then tap on the three-dot menu.

Step 2. Choose the Download button or Save Photo button, whatever appears on your device and save the Facebook Photo to your computer.

This method is used to download a few important images if you need them for something urgent.

These are the only methods on how to transfer Facebook Photos and Videos to Google Photos. The first method is the easiest and involves less effort and time. But it might not be available for all in which case you can use the second method. Facebook has announced at a press conference that it will be adding more transfer tools for other features like contacts, friend list, messages etc. Saving the Facebook Media content on your PC also ensures that you have taken a backup of your precious moments.
