How to Resize Dock On Your Mac

Dock has an important role in a Mac. It is the bar at the bottom of your Mac screen, where you can organise all favorite or frequently used programs. The program, files or folder, we put in dock can be quickly accessed with much ease.

Most of us  know how to put or remove programs from Dock, however, not many are aware about resizing it. While may presume that the size of Dock is predefined by Apple and that it cannot be resized, it is all but a misconception.

In this article, we will guide you through the steps of resizing the dock.

Resize the Dock of your Mac:

Resizing of dock can be done in two ways, from modifications in System Preferences or from the dock itself. Let’s first discuss how to alter the size of dock from System Preferences.

Resize the Dock From System Preferences:

  1. Click on the Apple icon at top left corner of the screen. From the drop, down menu, click on System Preferences.
  2. Click on Dock, in System Preference screen.
  3. You will now get a Dock Preference screen. In the Size option, move the slider across to make the dock size bigger or smaller. Moving the slider to right will increase the dock size while moving it left will decrease its size. You can also change the position of dock.
  4. You may then close the System Preference. The changes made will be reflected in the dock .

Resize the Dock From Dock Itself

This method is a much simpler than the previous one. Put your mouse on the dock-divider line. It is a line which separates the Trash/Download icon from the rest of the icons. Once the mouse is on top of that line, the pointer will automatically get converted to an up and down arrow. Now, click and drag the arrow to give the dock a new size.
