How to Offload an App from iPhone or iPad
Yes, iOS 11’s framework calls this process as Offloading. It can basically be done in two ways, one is manual and other is automatic.
Follow these steps to offload an app (manually) from your iPhone or iPad
- Head on to Settings> General> iPhone Storage.
- Here you’ll see a quick glimpse of which all apps is consuming how much storage space.
- As you’ll down you’ll find a list of all the available apps on your iPhone. Pick any one from this list (the one you wish to offload for a while).
- To Offload an app, select the “Offload App” option on the screen.
- A confirmation message will pop up. Hit “Offload app” to continue.
Once you’re done come back to the home screen. Here you’ll still see the app icon but with a cloud icon on the left. Whenever you wish to re-install the application, simply tap on the app icon and it will be again downloaded and be ready to use!
How to Automatically Offload Applications on iPhone and iPad
Rather than manually offloading each and every individual app, iOS 11 offers you an automatic option too. Whenever your device runs low on storage it will automatically offload a few apps to save some storage space.
To enable this feature head on to settings> General> iPhone storage. You’ll see an option named as “Offload Apps”, toggle this switch to offload unused apps.
As soon as you see a cloud icon next to app’s name it’ll depict that the app has been temporarily offloaded to save storage space. Whenever you wish to use it again, tap on the app icon again to download the application on your device.
