How To Fix Your “Computer Restarted Unexpectedly” Error In Windows 10

When you restart your computer there  is apossibility that  you get, “Computer Restarted Unexpectedly” error message on your screen. Typically this happens during the Windows installation and upgrade. Usually, the error message pops up on your computer when you’re using a recovery disk to restore your Windows machine to factory settings. Moreover, when your machine gets stuck in the reboot loop it doesn’t let the installation process go further. Fortunately, you can fix computer restarted unexpectedly error message with these methods.

In this post, we’re going to share how to fix, “Computer Restarted Unexpectedly” error in Windows 10.

First Method: Switch Your Hard Drive Cables

There is a  possibility that you might get “computer restarted unexpectedly” error message because of the hard drive cable. This is not the issue with all the computers. However, as per some of the Windows 10 users, when you get the “computer restarted unexpectedly” then you can get it fixed by switching the cables that connect hard drive to the motherboard. However, there is no guarantee that it fixes the issue but there is no harm to give a shot.

Second Method: Use Registry Editor

You can give a shot to Registry Editor to fix computer restarted unexpectedly error problem. Follow below instructions to use Registry Editor.

Step 1: Firstly, press Shift + F10 key to open Command Prompt when you get “The computer restarted unexpectedly” error message on your screen. You can also use “Type here to search” to open Command Prompt.

Step 2: In the Command Prompt, you need to enter regedit and press Enter/Yes to start Registry Editor.

Step3: Now, you need to navigate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\ChildCompletion and double-click to the setup.exe in the right pane.

Step 4: Now, you need to modify the Value Data from 1 to 3 and after that hit OK.

Step 5: Once you’re done, you need close Registry Editor and wait for at least 20 seconds before restarting your system.

Third Method: Run Startup/Automatic Repair

If both the above methods didn’t work for you then you can run setup/ automatic repair method to let the Windows automatically repair for yourself.

Step 1: Insert your Windows 10 bootable media that you have used at the time of installation process.

Step 2: Now, your system will prompt you to press any key to continue the process.

Step 3: You can choose your preferred language and hit Next.

Step 4: Choose Repair your computer that is available at the bottom-left corner of your screen.

Step 5: Select Troubleshoot from the new window.

Step 6: In the Troubleshoot screen, you need to select Advanced option.

Step 7: Once you get the Advanced Options screen, you need to select Automatic Repair or Startup Repair.

Step 8:  Now, restart your machine once the Windows Automatic/Startup Repairs completed.

Fourth Method: Format Your Hard Drive

If you’re going to format your hard drive then please keep in mind that using this method will eliminate your saved data and other settings.

Step 1: You need to open the Command prompt on your screen for that you can type Command Prompt in the search bar or press shift + F10 from your keyboard.

Step 2: Now, you need to type down the following commands in the command prompt window. Do not forget to hit enter after entering each command in cmd.

Step 3: Now, just type exit and press Enter to close Command Prompt after it.

Note: Please choose volume 1 command as the Windows operating system is installed in volume 1.

Step 4:  Restart your computer to save the changes. However, now you need to install Windows again.
