Science Fiction isn’t just a term or a concept. I’d rather call it futuristic drama, all set to pave the way for future technologies. Today’s imagination will most certainly be tomorrow’s reality, just like it has been for past movies. So yes, we can rely on Interstellar for us to find a new home, other than on Earth. Having said that, we have several Sci-fi movies that have witnessed future growth. Here is a list of 10 Sci-fi movies that were mere imagination some time back but now have become a reality.
- Minority Report (2002):
If you have seen Minority Report, you obviously know how it depicted touchscreen technology. Back in 2002, when mobile phones were still developing (and people still adopting wireless technology), Tom Cruise had hit lots of floating buttons. Perhaps, it was good to see Tom Cruise touching somewhere on the glass, but it has now become a reality.
Not only have touch screen phones proliferated, but other gadgets too have started supporting touch technology. In all, we now have things at our finger touch.
- Back to the Future Part II (1989):
Back to the Future Part II had depicted a techno-googles that could make calls. Yes, it was exactly when the family was having dinner around the table and making calls. Although, this made audience laugh at the time but now Google has picked up the technology and is working on it. So yes, it doesn’t exist yet, however, we’ll soon have tech-googles, allowing us to make calls. These tech-googles might even incorporate augmented reality technology. If this happen then you’d be able to see and virtually feel your loved one’s presence, with just a call.
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968):
This movie shouldn’t just be credited for a particular future tech-depiction, rather, for paving the entire way altogether. If you have seen it, you’d remember that it was based on human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence, existentialism and extraterrestrial life. Adapting from it, we today have space tourism, tablet computing, video calling and personal TVs embedded into airplane seats. So yes, it was a good watch (if not for all, then at least for geeks).
- The Jetsons (1962):
Yes, even 1962 gave us major technological goals. The Jetsons had shown almost everything we have today. It had video chat, tanning beds, a very much to closer iPad TeleViewer and of course those automated vacuum machines that we have today. This movie was a perfect show time for everyone who wanted science fiction in a lighter mode.
- Blade Runner (1982):
If you have seen Blade Runner, you’d remember its digital billboards. They aren’t yet a full-fledged technique used by all, yet some big cities do have digital billboards or are up to it. So yes, time isn’t far away when we’ll have scripts running on bill boards.
- Star Trek: The Original Series (1966):
Did you just get reminded of Milky Way galaxy? You must also remember the Tricorder, in that case. Yep, it’s the device that records and analyzes data and also used it for sensor scanning. Not exactly, but this Tricorder resembles to smartphones we have today. Both help us store and access data. Further, a wide range of apps available on smartphones can help us what Tricorder could do back then. In all, not absolutely but Star Trek can be recognized as giving us smartphone goals.
- Short Circuit (1986):
Short Circuit had shown a wise cracking robot. It resembles much to our today’s unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) that doesn’t require human presence to respond. Although UGVs are there since 1921, but the technology has largely after a while. So yes, wisdom of the devices can be co-related.
These 7 movies of past which had predicted and gave us major technological goals. If we talk about today, we have Inception, Universal Soldier, Matrix Trilogy, Akira and many more. Now if you wanna learn about future technology, one can rely on these scripts.
