Why It Is The Right Time To Find An Alternative To LastPass?

For the past couple of years, LastPass was undoubtedly the go-to Free Password Manager, as it offered tons of functionalities most people look for without paying a penny. However, as of March 16, 2021, LastPass free tier users will be limited to using the service on either a computer or smartphone.

What Exactly Happened?

According to the new tweaks, users on the service’s free pricing model will no longer have unlimited access to the stored passwords on multiple devices. They’ll be able to view and manage credentials on either computer or on mobile phone; from 16th March 2021. Users will soon be asked about the platform where they would like to access their vaults and will automatically be locked out from other devices.

Users will get three chances to change their ‘Active Device Type’ from desktop to mobile & vice-versa. After that, to access their credentials from both computer and smartphone devices users will have to subscribe to the Premium version of LastPass

The new implementations are applicable for the following devices: iOS, iPadOS, Android, Window Tablets, Smartwatches, Supported Browser Extensions, Windows, macOS, Linux computers & laptops.

So, Will, I Lose All My Passwords & Data Stored In The Vault Due To These New Changes?

Well, the company stated that “No, as a LastPass Free user, you will not lose access to any of the passwords or information stored in your Vault, regardless of the type of the device that was used when the item was initially added. All devices sync automatically for each user.

For example, if you added a password to your Vault from a mobile device in the past but you have now chosen to make Computers your active device type, the password entry will remain in your Vault after March 16, 2021, when LastPass Free only supports one device type.”
