What is Fast Startup?

Windows 10 is truly a bunch of useful features, and Fast Startup is one of them. Formerly came with Windows 8, it provides faster boot time whenever you start your computer. Works as similar to hybrid sleep mode and it’s enabled by default to reduce the time it takes for the computer to boot up from being fully shut down. Works even faster than hibernate!

Why Disable Fast Boot Feature?

Faster boot times sounds great functionality to have, so why anybody wants to turn it off?

  • By default, the feature is enabled and makes your computer to not perform regular shutdowns.
  • Also interferes with encrypted disk images. Many users have reportedly complained about how they had mounted the encrypted drives before shutting down their system and were automatically remounted when PC was started again.
  • When you shut down your PC while Faster Boot is turned on, Windows automatically locks down hard disk. You can’t even access it from other operating systems if you have your PC configured to dual-boot.
  • Depends upon the system to system, but if you’ve shut down your PC with Fast Startup enabled, you might not be able to access BIOS/UEFI settings.
  • Several device drivers hate being put into hibernation. As a result, they act stubbornly and sometimes also leads to crashing the PC.

As your PC isn’t shutting down fully, many devices are put in and brought out from hibernation continually, therefore leading to causing these issues.
