The coronavirus pandemic has a lot of dark sides. Around the world people are dying, getting ill, tech events are being cancelled. It is a huge stressor, triggering fears and uncertainties.
No matter how sad and gloomy it is, there are upsides as well. To help people companies are releasing new features before time, for instance, the addition of the Kids section to Google Play and now Facebook’s mobile Gaming app. The app was intended to release in June but Facebook changed the plan.
Why does Facebook accelerate its plans?
As people are staying at home and socially distancing themselves, they need something to stay entertained. What could be better than a game, right?
The global $160 billion game business is at its peak and since there is not much competition Facebook decided to spice it up with its dedicated gaming app. It looks like Amazon’s Twitch; Microsoft’s Mixer service and Google’s YouTube are getting a new competitor.
Further, a 210% increase in watching gameplay has also been analysed. All this gives a valid reason as to why Facebook is coming up with a gaming app.
Last week we announced Facebook Gaming tournaments. Today, we’re proud to announce Facebook Gaming will be home to the #PlayApartTogether Tournament from @greenlitcontent, featuring a roster of pro athletes – and it starts tonight! pic.twitter.com/ZJIB4sd9m6

What does the app offer?
Facebook’s gaming app is designed to create and watch live gameplay. The app will largely curate and focus on the streaming community. It will include casual games.
However, the popularity and fate of the app will depend on people. If the gaming app is successful in luring people to watch and create live game streams the app will stay for long.
Not only, but this Facebook is also adding a Go Live function. Using it gamers can upload streams of other mobile games on the same device in a few taps.
The gaming app is expected to add the Instant Games tab, a feature that was available in Messenger. This will help gamers compete against one another.
How to use Facebook’s gaming app?
Currently, viewers can stream and watch games via the Facebook app. With that said, the Facebook Gaming app is available only for Android users only. Once Apple approves them, the iOS version will also be released.
How will Facebook make money?
For now, there are no in-app advertisements. But the stars sent out by viewers will present a sum of money and the company will take a commission.
This explains why Facebook is in a hurry and the company wants a larger stake in live streaming. With this new Facebook Gaming app, the company aims at the 700 million users, special focus is on streamers. You will surely have a good time using this app.
