WHAT IS THE NEW FEATURE?

Facebook is busy in trialing the new feature Collections, which will help you to look through your saved post easily and find the ones you want to revisit. This feature is similar to the feature of Instagram which was launched back in April. Besides, saving the posts from your feed, it will enable you to organize the saved ones into a folder for easier access.

The update was first highlighted by social media professional Mari Smith; from her screenshots, it appears to work just as Instagram’s Collections.

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

The feature looks like Collection feature on Instagram. To save your posts, you need to tap into three dots menu and it will ask you to arrange it Collection. Once the post is saved, you can view it in the Collections list.

The feature will surely be useful for people who like to watch videos and read the post later. It is not that you were not able to save the post earlier but now with Collections feature on, you can organize them in a neat manner like in folder categorized according to the post type such as funny , music and more.

It might interest the people who connect with plenty of people and indulge in social networking. Earlier with a browser extension, Facebook enables you to save the page from any place on the web, so the ability to categorize your saved posts would be a hit among the Facebook lovers.

As of now, the ability is available for a few users. Facebook will roll out the feature for other people soon.

TWITTER TO HAVE BOOKMARKS FEATURE?

THE STORY

Twitter’s declining growth has pushed it to work on new features and bookmarks is one of them.

WHAT IS BOOKMARKS & WHY IS IT ADDED?

To combat diminishing growth in a number of users, Twitter has started working on making itself better. Last month, Twitter initiated to work on “save for later” feature with which you could be able to save the Tweets that you might want to refer to future.  Twitter has given a name to it now, they are calling it Bookmarks and is testing the same.

Tina Koyama, a staff product designer made the news public in series of tweets and added that the company is working on how Bookmarks will look and work.  Moreover, they will start testing them in Twitter community.

WHAT TWITTER SAYS ABOUT IT?

For now, Twitter has declined to comment on the news and stated: “ We’ll be sure to let you know if/when we have more details to share in terms of a formal announcement!”

By far with what it seems, Twitter Bookmarking tool might show up in a menu located in the top-right corner of a Tweet in the mobile app and v-drop-down menu located at the top-right corner on your PC. The option would be accompanied by other options such as sending a direct message or creating a moment.

The saved bookmarks can be accessed on your profile page, where you locate Lists and Moments. Well, earlier to keep the post saved for you, you might have used Twitter’s heart but it also notifies the sender of the Tweet. With Bookmark, you can save it for yourselves without notifying anyone. Moreover, Twitter will allow you to share the bookmarked tweet if you want.

“You told us that you want Tweets you’ve bookmarked to be private, so only you can see it,” Koyama writes. “We kept this in mind while creating designs for the feature.”

WHAT ARE THE OTHER WAYS OF SAVING TWEETS?

There are other ways to save the tweets for later references. You can either send it you as a DM(Direct Message), retweeting them so that they appear on your timeline, open them in other tabs and more. However, these are not the ideal ways to keep a tweet or the information to yourselves. Certainly, hitting a button to get the Tweet saved is a better option.

With this attempt, Twitter is trying to become more productive rather than a distraction. Twitter is trying to become more engaging, first, it has doubled the characters from 140 to 280, then testing the tweetstorms to string together and now working on bookmark feature.

Twitter has been always in controversies due to the inability of filtering the content and it has been continuously in combat with it. Now, with the new feature, it has to face the new challenge to engage users and increase growth
